Suicide is the second most frequent cause of death for youth ages 15 to 24. Suicide rates are three times higher for indigenous peoples. One out of three Canadians will be affected by a mental illness during their life. Socioeconomic factors play are directly linked to mental health issues. We must act now.
The government of Canada needs to invest in :
- general public education about mental health
- training for mental health professionals
- timely diagnosis processes to insure early intervention
- support for sexual assault survivors
- support for elders
