Jenica Atwin to run again in Fredericton, N.B.
April 23, 2021
OTTAWA – Green Party Leader Annamie Paul congratulates Jenica Atwin on being acclaimed as the party’s candidate in Fredericton for the next federal election. Ms. Atwin made history in the 2019 federal election when she became the first Green MP from the Maritimes and the first woman elected as MP for Fredericton.
Atwin has been instrumental in reviving the all-party mental health caucus which has been pushing the government to identify national standards for mental health care, an item which was included in the federal budget this week. Earlier this month Atwin tabled her first private members bill to protect the health and wellness of Canadians by calling for a ban on the use of the herbicide glyphosate in Canada. Last October her amendments to Bill C-3 were passed to ensure Indigenous leadership, both elected and traditional, would be consulted on curriculum development for judges training on sexual assault and sexual violence.
“We’re thrilled that Jenica is running for re-election in Fredericton,” said Ms.Paul. “In the short time that she has been an MP, Jenica has advocated tirelessly for her constituents and community and demonstrated such proficiency in Parliament that she was named the Rising Star in the Maclean’s Parliamentarian of the Year awards. At this critical juncture in our history, the Green Party and Canada will benefit enormously from her continued presence in the House of Commons.”
